Congratulations Mike & Rachel!

Couple: Mike and Rachel
Wedding Date:  May 11, 2013
Ceremony:  St. Cyril’s Catholic Church
Reception:  Riveredge Resort, Alexandria Bay, NY

Mike & Rachel have quite a story of love that led up to the day they finally exchanged rings with a promise to love one another forever. I could not do their story justice if I even tried. So, with that said, after 7 years of being apart Mike and Rachel fell in love again. This time it led them to this beautiful day in May.

I often tell my brides that with all the detailed planning and praying for a perfect day, sometimes things do go wrong. We’ve seen bridesmaids faint, cakes melt, and on May 11, 2013 we witnessed all of Alex Bay’s power go out. Yes, you heard me right…all of Alex Bay’s power went out. There were discussions of ceremony relocation, or candlelight, needing guest food lists because the venue’s could not be located in the outage. So you may ask, “How did the bride react?” With grace. Rachel stayed calm and made the decisions she needed to. We pulled back the drapes and put on smiles,  with iPhone flashlights in tow we braved the stairwell. Love and life went on. Wouldn’t you know that right before Mike and Rachel had their first look of one another, the power came on! Yay!

The ceremony was full of beautiful music and loving smiles. Afterwards guests enjoyed ice cream “Dilly Bars”, and then fun was had at the park taking photos. Mike and Rachel created a relaxed atmosphere for their guests and created enough time during their planning to really enjoy their guests. At the end of the night after all of the tears of joy and fun, Mike and Rachel ran down a gauntlet of sparklers to embark on a boat tour of the bay. Enjoy the photos of the love and joy this couple shared on their wedding day! Oh, and did I mention they had the first ring “bear” I’ve ever encountered?! Enjoy!

Absolutely stunning pictures. So happy for you.

We’re back on the blog again…

Last Saturday we decided to take our little family out to test our new Radio Poppers and light box we had just received in the mail. For those of you who don’t know, Radio Poppers remote fire our off camera flashes. A light box diffuses the light that is being emitted from the flash. Anyway, we live in Oswego and I do believe we have one of the best spots to watch a gorgeous sunset. With that said, our children love sunsets, throwing rocks in the water, and well, the water. Josiah loves the water so much he decided to get soaked…you would think I would need to worry about the 3 year old twins falling in the water, but no, it’s my daredevil 7 year old…haha. We got some fun shots of the lovely crew and thought we would share. Enjoy the smiles, drama, and craziness!

Next up on the blog is going to be photos of our new studio!  Stay tuned.

Big News!

Our big news is… We are opening a studio gallery! One may ask, hmmmm… what is a studio gallery? Well, we are opening a studio here in Oswego of which the main purpose of the space is to showcase our work, not photograph in. When you walk in, there will be a large gallery spilling into a lounge area. We want you, our clients, to walk in and get a true feeling of our style of photography. Large wall displays will be hung with photos of weddings, lifestyle family sessions, newborns, and seniors. The lounge will be an environment to look at and hold our many beautiful albums, save the date cards, and of course view your very own photos on our 60’’ smart TV. We are creating this space for you. We want our clients to walk away knowing our style, quality of work, products, and services we offer. Photography is art and we hope to help you, our clients figure out how you can have art of your very own family hanging on your walls.

Secondly, the studio gallery is a “studio” also because we have a room that will be used for photographing newborns and small children. This will be so amazing for me as I will be able to have every prop, hat, or blanket at hand and not have to choose what to bring to a session. I have some gorgeous backdrops coming in the mail as well, as some beautiful props I will be adding to the collection…yay! The photos taken in the studio will be more of an artistic portrait style. I am so excited to be able to offer this service to you!

Thirdly, the area you see below is going to be going through some major changes. We, well I really mean Guy, will be working really hard the next week and a half before we go on vacation to get a huge chunk of remodeling done. On the list is new flooring, paint, doors, fixing mortar, tearing out shelving, amongst some other things. I, on the other hand, will be taking this opportunity to do some shopping to make the place look amazing! The couch, love seat, and TV in the photos are ours, but the odds and ends are items the previous tenants were still moving out.

We feel so blessed to be able to have this opportunity to move forward with our business and to share our vision with the community. Thank you to all of our clients who are already so supportive of our business, and I hope to be able to do work for the rest of you I have yet to meet. Keep an eye out for more updates this week and next! Thanks!

Casey Norris

We are thrilled for you and Guy!

New item! Gallery Wrap Clusters!

Guy and I are excited to present a new service we will be providing for our clients…gallery wrap wall displays! Have you ever had a group of photos you just love, but don’t know how to display them? We will help you to figure out the number of photos you want, where you would like them hung, and also the sizes you would like them in. Oh, and did I mention we give you directions on how to hang them in your own home? Awesome, I know! Here are some examples of different displays that can be provided with different cluster designs. Enjoy, and start thinking about where you would like Keech Photography’s displays hung in your home! Our goal is to turn your photo session or wedding into beautifully displayed works of art, and not another item in your closet.

Kadeine Campbell Peterson

These are amazing!

Oooh I love this! :-)

And here it is!

Over the past few years Guy and I have played around with different fonts to create our logos. Neither of us are graphic designers so our pool of knowledge was limited. We created what was good for the time, but always had a vision of something more. We had the opportunity to work with graphic designers from around the world, telling them what our desired direction was. The experience was a lot of fun and exciting. In the end we were very pleased with our choices and decided to go with the logo shown. We love the logo and feel it really says who we are. You may ask, why change your logo now? Well, we have some big news to share in the next few months that will answer that question. For now, let your imagination run wild, call to book us for your wedding, newborn, or life session. We are very excited where our business is taking us, and the best part is Guy and I are doing it together!

Kadeine Campbell Peterson

Amazing. I love it!

Amy Keech

Thanks Kadeine! One of many new things that are going to be happening the next couple of months.

Macro Project Week 1

A photographer friend of mine is doing a 52 week macro project. By her encouragement I thought it would be fun to hop on her bandwagon. So for the next year, every week, I am going to do my best at posting at least one macro photograph using people as my study subject. My first two photos posted below are of my three children’s feet all intertwined. They were all giggling and having a good time while I was photographing their cute little toes. So I start this journey with my children’s feet that have so many paths yet to walk. Enjoy!

Bigger isn’t always better…

Couple: Mike and Amanda
Wedding Date: June 9, 2012
Wedding Venue: Tin Pan Galley, Sacketts Harbor NY

Many times when a guy and girl get engaged they are so happy to start this new adventure in life, but really have no idea where to start. When Guy and I started talking about getting married we were floating on cloud 9 thinking about the most random wedding day things you could imagine. We didn’t have a clue as to how to begin the journey. From venues to centerpieces to a honeymoon we were clueless. All I knew was I had that diamond ring, I liked the color blue, I wanted to get married outside, I wanted good food, and I wanted a good photographer. I am writing this blog not to tell you how to find and decide on all of those things (I will get those later), but on two very important wedding day elements; a venue that suits your personality and the size of your wedding.

I understand that as soon as you get engaged all of the parents involved start making the enormous lists of guests to invite (including Aunt Sally you met when you were 2). We have all been there to some extent. I will remind you that if your parents are the ones paying for the wedding they obviously will have some input as to how large the guest list will be. Just take a moment though and forget about everything but yourself and your fiance. What suits both of your personalities? A small, intimate gathering, a huge 300 guest party, or something in between. Guy and I had a large wedding because we had a lot of family, church family, and friends we wanted to celebrate with. One thing is though, I never thought that a small wedding was an option. Now looking back, I wonder if I would have enjoyed a small wedding in a garden with lots of flowers, appetizers, live music, and little artistic details even more than what we had…not that I didn’t absolutely LOVE my wedding day and everything about it:)

The photo collage posted was a beautiful, intimate wedding that took place at one of the couple’s favorite restaurants, The Tin Pan Galley in Sacketts Harbor, NY. They knew they wanted a vintage, quaint wedding, with their closest family and friends at a delicious restaurant. That’s exactly what they got. Everything for preparing for the day was the same as one would do for any wedding. A small wedding does not mean easy and cheap. It just means small. Amanda and Mike still had to book the restaurant, pick and send invitations, dress and tux shop, get a hair dresser and make-up artist, flowers, favors, cake, details…it was a lot of planning still. The difference is they were planning for an intimate set wedding rather than a big, extravagant ordeal. I am not saying one is better than another. The point I am trying to make is that you do have a choice as to how you celebrate your day. If you have a small wedding, you can always have a big clam bake at mom and dad’s place to celebrate with the rest of your family at a later date.

You can take input from close family members about your big day, but you need to remember it is your day. Think of your personalities, and do what’s right for you both. Do you like the country and rustic settings, or the city with lots of lights and style. I will blog at a later date in more detail about how to incorporate your personalities into your wedding day. For now meditate on the size of your wedding and enjoy planning the day that you will share with your family and friends. Oh, and if you need an awesome couple to photograph your love…give us a call!:)

Amanda Belden

This was a nice reminder of our special day and very sweet of you :)
I’m am so glad you and Guy were able to share the day with us… and able to get so many wonderful pictures.

Here’s a little bit of warmth on this frigid day!

Couple: Melissa and Pat
Location: Fallbrook, Oswego NY
Wedding Date: September 15, 2012
Wedding Location: The View Art Gallery, Old Forge NY

Here’s a little bit of warmth on this frigid day!

Pat and Melissa’s engagement session was a lot of fun for me to photograph. Melissa went to college for art education, as did I. So, before their session I thought to myself, what would be a unique, fun surprise for this couple for their session. I would like to take all of the credit, but I think it was Guy who suggested they paint together. Anyway, there is never a dull moment with Pat and Melissa. They are so in love and always full of smiles. It was a lot of fun capturing how they interact together during their engagement session as well as on their wedding day. Oh, and they loved painting together…I hope this first time won’t be their last! I will post some photos of their wedding sometime within the next few weeks…truly a wonderful day. Thank you Pat and Melissa for allowing us to share all of these special moments!

Keven and Mary’s Engagement Session

Couple: Keven & Mary
Location: Taste the World and Oswego City Hall, Oswego NY
Wedding Date: August 17th, 2013

This sweet couple, Keven and Mary, will be getting married this coming August. This engagement session was unlike any other I have ever done. I have known Mary her whole life. To see her grow and mature into a beautiful, lovely lady and have the man of her dreams ask for her hand in marriage is so wonderful to see. When she asked me to be her photographer I felt blessed to be able to say yes, to document their special day. I look forward to capturing more of Mary’s giggles and Keven’s loving glances this coming August.

On a less serious note, don’t you love her boots?!

Mary Jean Walker

Amy, I mention your name and business to all my brides. I would love for you to mention to your brides that we do bridal alterations and carry Tuxedo Junction. Shopping locally is easier and more fun than Syracuse. It also saves money and time.

Amy Keech

No problem Mary Jean! We will continue to send them your way :) And thank you for recommending us!

Life Sessions Defined

One of my absolute favorite parts about photographing a family is observing how the family interacts together. This is why I choose to use the term “life sessions”. During the 1-1.5 hours I spend with a family my goal is to document the real character of each member and how they interact with one another. I create a relaxed environment with a lot of play and a few posed shots mixed within. A child doesn’t feel the need to perform because they are allowed to be themselves. Laughing or crying, it’s all a part of who they are. Don’t worry if your three year old shows up grumpy…after a few games of tag and a tickle war they will be showing their most genuine smile. Have I ever been jumped on by a two year old while laying on the ground trying to get a fun perspective? Of course I have! Was the best photo of the day the two year old running full bore at me with a crazy, fun, mischievous smile? Of course it was! If you want photos to show who your kids really are and not just their “cheese” smile, please give me a call. I have even been known to photograph in the snow…snow pants and all!

Merry Christmas Brett and Amanda

What a beautiful, sweet couple Brett and Amanda are. We have enjoyed every minute spent with this couple from meetings, their engagement photos, and finally their wedding. Their wedding really was the perfect end to a fantastic 2012 wedding season.

When Brett said “I do” he knew he’d always have that sweet smile looking up at him for the rest of his life.

Family…Pie…and the letter A

Well, before Christmas gets here I decided to post a little blog about our Thanksgiving. There are 5 of us here in the Keech family…Guy, myself (Amy), Josiah (7), Asher (2), Abigail (2). We often split the day up between both parent’s houses for holidays, but this year my mother-in-law decided we could have Thanksgiving on another day with her. It was very sweet of her as those of us with children know how crazy young kids with no nap and too much sugar can get;) In the photos you’ll see my sister with her brand new hubby passed out on the couch from hunting all morning. The star of the day I have to say is my new little niece Lili…love that girl and her crazy smile! My poor twins were still not feeling well, and Asher is all cozied up on Pa. Thankfully Josiah was full of smiles. Our family has grown so much we had to move the adult table into the game room while the kids table remained on the easy to clean floor (grandma isn’t much for crumbs…haha). The dinner was delicious as always mostly prepared by my mom, aka Superwoman. (To my defense I was not able to help as the kids were sick for days before). To add a little excitement to the day, it was my sister-in-law’s date she was due to bring my beautiful niece into the world. Isabelle decided to allow mommy to carb it up for the big night a few days later. So, there was no worries about who was to welcome the new little turkey into the family.

Onto pie…mmmmm….delicious! My mom asked everyone their pie preference this year and I was special and got a whole pie to myself! Okay, it might happen to be that I am allergic to dairy and she made me a dairy free, awesome pumpkin pie, but I was special with a big A on my pie none the less. (No, I did not eat the whole thing…hahaha). This brings me to a funny story from my childhood… I always loved to help my mom make pies. My favorite part was pressing or shaping the crust around the edge of the pie plate. I always felt special when I was done because my mom would fork a lovely A on top of the pie. Of course the A was for Amy because I helped with that pie. You cannot imagine my surprise and disappointment when I finally learned that the A was for Apple and not Amy. Well, this year A was for Amy on that delicious pumpkin pie! We all had a wonderful day full of fun and yumminess…we hope you did too!

I am boldly going where no one in the Keech family has gone before… Twitter.  If any of our followers out there have a Twitter account be sure to look me up, @GuyKeech.  Amy, for the time being, will be continuing to focus her attention on Facebook.  But now I have a very perplexing problem and that is… what am I going to tweet???
